THE SEAHOLM TEAM: JT VAN ZANDT

There are few pioneers. The unsung, they do what they love and turn convention on its head. Years before A River Runs Through It made fly fishing mainstream, JT and a small group of fisherman, headquartered at the fabled Austin Angler, brought fly fishing to Texas. As revolutionary as surfing the mountains of Vermont or skateboarding the drought-stricken pools of LA, the group experimented with flies to catch redfish and seatrout on the flats of the formidable Texas coast. Thirty years later, the Middle Texas Coast is a world-renowned fly fishing destination. JT still brings a revolutionary flair to the trips he leads. Convention is always tested.

Fishing is only one part of JT’s story. Conservationist, father, musician, philosopher, and woodworker, JT has lived a life outside of the ordinary. It is best told in his own words.
